Early this morning I received an email that caught my attention. Enjoy the images.

The next challenge was to design a vertical structure on the island of Cotonduba that, besides having the function of a observation tower, becomes a symbol of welcome for those who come to Rio by air or sea, since this will be the host city for the 2016 Olympic Games. Designed by Bureau Rafa, based in Zurich, Switzerland, and called ‘Solar City Tower’, this structure was chosen as the appropriate response to the initial proposal and has the potential to generate enough energy not only to the Olympic village, but also forRio de Janeiro.

Its design allows you to harness solar energy by daytime panels located at ground level, while the excess energy produced is piped to pump sea water through the interior of the tower, producing an effect of falling water in the pool. This water is reused simultaneously through turbines in order to produce energy during the night.

These features allow you to assign the title of this project sustainable in the tower, continuing some of the assumptions of the ‘United Nation’s Earth Summit “of 1992, which also occurred in Rio de Janeiro, thus contributing to foster among the inhabitants of the city the use of natural resources for energy production.

The Solar City Tower also has other features. Amphitheater, auditorium, cafeteria and shops are accessible on the ground floor, from which you access also the public elevator, this will lead visitors to various observatories, as well as a retractable platform for the practice of bungee jumping.

At the top of the tower you can enjoy all the scenery that surrounds the island, as well as the fall of water generated by the system that integrates the City Solar Tower, making it a point of reference for the 2016 Olympic Games and Rio de Janeiro.

Looks great !!!

Hello Folks, I love learning about photography and often search for software and websites to find out tips from others. Often when returning from a trip, I feel like I’ve missed out on capturing a part of a location to obtain the right sunrise/sunset times when I was visiting. Bu there is free software called The Photographer’s Ephemeris can help amateur or professional photographers to catch the perfect light. The Photographer’s Ephemeris gives the raw data, but goes on to display it visually, overlaid on Google Maps, allowing the user to see the angle of the sun and moon for any time and date and any location on earth. Check it out!
